It’s truly amazing that I’ve never tired of the view, and today was no exception. It’s been one of those schizophrenic San Francisco days with an early morning monsoon with spurts of sunlight to throw off even the most prepared dresser. At about 7:30 pm I looked up from the depths of the internet to see this. I nearly killed myself as a ran barefoot up the soaked, creaky stairs to my apartment’s roof deck. I scaled the protective wall that encloses the deck and ran like a crazy person to the edge of the roof, slipping and sliding so that I could get a better shot. I was surprised I didn’t plummet to my death because I was not even paying attention to my spatial relations. My camera doesn’t have the best lens, and these don’t nearly do the moment justice, but I was out of breath and spellbound. The adorable taunts of the art students across the way, “Hey, you can’t take pictures of RAINBOWS!” sealed the deal. I love you, SF.

I’ve been looking for a city of wooden combs my whole...

I’ve been looking for a city of wooden combs my whole life….

Hello. I believe I was inbetween jobs, attempting to enroll in fashion design school and going through a serious “WTF am I doing with my life” kind of phase. Obviously these moments of crisis often bring clarity and conjure up brilliant ideas like, “What if I start a blog. A novel plan!”

Flaneur is from the French “to stroll” and the great Charles Baudelaire once felt that the dapper dandies of post-Revolutionary France who casually walked the streets were an important part of the new culture and society. That’s a little too deep for my purposes (philosophy majors correct me if I’m wrong!) but I felt that it was indicative of my personality and my intentions for this forum. I think the act of strolling around, observing and taking it all in, is a lost art… and people are missing out. This is just going to be some observations from around the city, comments on fashion, design, politics and whatever else I think of. Hopefully it will develop organically into something on its own.
